June of course is the peak month in all Gardens in Britain. There are sights and smells to delight us in all directions. The Water Lilies are at their best this month and of course the scent of the mock orange bushes – Philadelphus stops you in your tracks as you walk past. The bees are busy in the lime trees and their hum as you walk underneath I always think is the true sound and scent of the English Summer. If you walk past the tennis courts you will see on of the Victorian Back to Back benches has been renovated in memory of Kim Purdy, and very fine it looks too. If anyone would like to give the renovation of one of the others as a memorial to a loved one, we would be very pleased to hear from you – firstname.lastname@example.org. The seats were placed in the Gardens at their opening in 1888, and were back to back for smokers on one side, and non-smokers on the other!
