Tesco’s Volunteering Day

September is the start of the “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” and the Roan tree with its red berries and the Sweet chestnut are great examples of this. The squirrels have made off with the abundant crop of walnuts that were growing  North of the Tennis Courts.

The surround to the Memorial Oak is looking a little scruffy now, with just dead seed heads, but it has given continuously since March a wonderful free show – first the spring bulbs, then a mass of Forget-me-nots, followed by Foxgloves, then Lychness with it’s brilliant magenta flowers – all completely free from the good coat of our own garden compost that was spread to help the tree recover from its stress.
